SHELTERBOX
ShelterBoxes
are urgently needed for disasters like the flooding in Brazil, the
cyclone in Madagascar and the earthquake in the Philippines. With
the money donated by the people and schools of the Gravesend area,
ShelterBoxes can be sent to help people in these disaster areas
that have lost everything. More>>

BOULES 2012
As some light relief to the
serious side of Rotary we spent an evening practicing on the boule
rinks at the George pub in Meopham in readiness for our next
visit to our French friends in our contact club of Cosne
Sancerre.

HYTHE R.C. CHARITY
GOLF
TOURNAMENT
Once again the intrepid golfers of the Rotary
Club of Gravesend travelled the breadth of Kent to the annual
challenge of Hythe Rotary Club’s charity golf tournament.
Unfortunately it didn’t bode from the
start since sickness had robbed us of Simon, our Captain and
golfing guru (- that is what you told me to write isn’t it
Simon?).
The warm welcome we received at Etchinghill
Golf Club was not however matched by the appalling weather where
18mm of rain fell and that was interspersed with hailstone and
thunder and lightning. This is obviously the reason why our
magnificent golfers missed making a clean sweep of all the prizes
i.e. we made a clean sweep of missing ALL the prizes and that even
included the raffle.
Neither the cruel traps of the Etchinghill
golf course nor the inclement weather failed to dampen the spirits
of the hardy souls of our golfing group. After our efforts on the
course, a shower and a hot meal revived us and soon TJ, Eamonn,
Chris (Wraight), Adrian, John (Baker) and myself (John Dyke) were
recounting the exploits of the day over a glass of red wine ...
and thinking of our next challenge.
