Rochester Rotary Club once again threw down the gauntlet to us. The annual Bat and Trap Challenge was held at Meopham on Sunday 17th August. Despite the appalling weather forecast and our limited numbers (due to holidays and sickness) we fielded a reasonable team. From the moment we arrived, the Rochester Rotarians treated us to the warmest hospitality. The weather did its worst while we had our wonderful buffet lunch but after the coffee the sun came out and so did we (from the marque). After a bit of warming up it was “game on”. Rochester opened the batting and our hearts sank as their score climbed but eventually we got our breakthrough and we had the bat. While most of our scores were single figures, a hero (or should I say heroine) appeared in our midst – Lynfred battled and batted to give us a commanding lead. While Rochester fought valiantly in their second innings, our lead was just to big for us to loose. We finally thanked the Rochester Rotarians for their incredible hospitality and fellowship that had made it such a wonderful day for everyone there.
